For nearly twenty years, Mika Rottenberg has been producing videos and associated installations. The central theme of her work is the commodification of the (female) body, and of human relations in general. Rottenberg ascribes the origin of these works to her ‘reading of the texts of Karl Marx’.
Dough, an earlier work, expresses Rottenberg’s ‘spiritual Marxist’ attitude through her hierarchical representation of women’s work within a production process.
