Isa Melsheimer is known for her poetic, thought-provoking work at the intersection of architecture, embroidery, and spatial theory. Created specifically for Norman Foster's architectural space, these textile pieces are embroidered with quotes from Kōbō Abe’s novel The Box Man, reflecting Melsheimer's interest in urban marginality, invisibility, and hidden perspectives. Her practice blends fine textile work with conceptual depth, using embroidery not only as ornamentation but as a form of drawing and storytelling.
Addressing themes such as modernist housing, homelessness, and architectural instability, some recent works also respond to real-world events—like the collapse of the Cologne City Archive—raising questions about environmental vulnerability and collective responsibility in a tightly structured world.
