A major artist of our time, Jeff Wall has deeply transformed the way we think about photography. By aligning the medium with a broader pictorial tradition and considering it in its relations to other art forms – painting, but also cinema and literature – Wall has redefined its essence and extended the field of its possibilities. Conceived in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition Appearance, presented at Kunsthalle Mannheim (02.06-09.09.2018) and at Mudam Luxembourg (05.10.2018-06.01.2019) brings togehter twenty-seven of his large format photographs: light boxes but also colour or black-and-white prints. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published in collaboration with Edition Cantz, and including essays by David Campany, Jean-François Chevrier and Bernd Stiegler.
