This publication follows up the exhibition The Space of Words presented at Mudam in 2009. It is centred on the practice of eleven artists of different generations (Manon de Boer, Marcel Broodthaers, Aurélien Froment, Ryan Gander, Raymond Hains, Harald Klingelhöller, Dominique Petitgrand, Edward Ruscha, Frances Stark, Josef Strau and Tris Vonna-Mitchell) who tackle the relationship between language and space from the angle of different types of variances: erasing, alteration, shift in meaning, illogicality, etc. It gathers texts by Jean-Philippe Antoine and Christophe Gallois and interviews, mostly previously unpublished, with the artists in this exhibition.
