The mystery resides in the shadows. The details of architectures, mountains and elements of construction in the paintings of Tina Gillen (*1972, Luxembourg) are represented as snapshots one would perceive as one walks by very quickly. A choreography of disturbing projected shadows – or even an artificial absence of all shadow – transforms banal objects and everyday places into theatre backdrops. In her recent works, Tina Gillen superimposes the pictorial elements, succeeding in creating a dense and loaded atmosphere in which all linear perspective seems to vanish.
The first monograph of Tina Gillen’s work presents the whole of the artist’s work since 1996.
